Flax oil - Polish Gold 2 / 4 - Groups of fatty acids

Lets characterise short individual groups of fatty acids:

1. Saturated fatty acids. These fatty acids are synthesized of sugar in the fat tissue and liver. Hence, most of them are in bacon and lard. The most important of these are stearic acid (C18: 0) and palmitic (C16: 0).

2. Fatty acids, omega-9. They are overwhelmingly Monounsaturated fatty acids, ie, with one double bond in middle of the molecule. Structure, physical properties and biological are most similar to saturated fats. The highest content these acids is characterized by olive oil. Hence, it is the only oil which is in the refrigerator is able to solidify. The hardest of the oils plant, they are oxidized. For this reason, olive oil is the best oil from vegetable oils used for frying. The most important fatty acid from this group, oleic acid (C18: 1). Omega-6 is an average of 50-70%, and omega-3 medium about 1-8%. The rest falls on omega-9 and saturated fats.

The omega-3 and omega-6 are produced in a variety of body prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes. These are compounds in cells in very small quantities, but a very important function for the body. They relay information in nature. In the greatest simplification, we can say that the fatty acids omega-3 to produce anti-inflammatory prostaglandins in nature and inhibiting blood clotting (anti-infarction), while the fatty omega-6 - Non proinflammatory prostaglandins and wzmagającym blood coagulation.

This is reflected in the extremely short life of oil flax especially rich in omega-3, of only 2 months.

Let us list the most important fatty acids of these groups, two groups:

a number of omega-6:

linoleic acid (C18: 2) › gamma-linolenic acid (C18: 3) › arachidonic acid (C20: 4).

a number of omega-3:

alpha-linolenic acid (C18: 3) › eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, C20: 4) › dokozapentaenowy (C22: 5) › docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22: 6).

As you can see, these acids are placed in series. It is related to that more fatty acids in this series can be produced in the body from the acids earlier. The former, however, are necessary and must be supplied by the diet.

You have to pay more attention, as it can be a source of confusion and fraud in the advertisements of different oils, the difference between alpha-linolenic acid and gamma-linolenic. One belongs to omega-3 and the second to omega-6. They are so completely different effects on the body. Competent omega-3 acid is alpha-linolenic acid. Most important for the body of omega-3 fatty acids are EPA and DHA. Particularly abundant in nervous system and brain.
